Import data into Notion

Like most people, you probably have data, documents, and notes scattered across many files and apps. You can centralize your information in one place by moving it all into Notion 🚚

How to import

  • Notion lets you directly import the following file types:
    • Plaintext (.txt)
    • Markdown (.md or .markdown)
    • Microsoft Word (.docx)
    • Microsoft Excel (.xls)
    • CSV (.csv)
  • You can also import data from a number of other apps (like Asana, Evernote, and Trello to name a few).
  • To do this, click Import toward the bottom of your left-hand sidebar.
  • That brings up the import window where you can choose which app to migrate. (App-specific import instructions below.)

Note: You can only import content on desktop or web, not on mobile.

Instructions by app

Evernote 🐘
You can import all of your Evernote data into Notion in one go, and retain its organization.
  • From the import window, choose Evernote.
  • Sign into your Evernote account.
  • Authorize Evernote to connect to Notion.
  • Once your Evernote account is linked, check the boxes next to the notebooks you'd like to move and click Import.
  • Your Evernote notebooks will appear as pages in Notion's sidebar. Inside, you'll find your notes as items in a list database.
  • Each note can be dragged and dropped anywhere else within Notion.

In Google Docs, you can export files individually or all at once.

  • In Notion, go to Import, choose Word and upload the .docx file.
Migrate all Google Docs files at once:
  • Click Deselect all at the top right of the window above the checkboxes.
  • Scroll to Drive and check the box next to it. You can also click Advanced settings to choose which files you want to move.
  • Click Next step at the bottom.

Migrate an entire Confluence space:
  • In Confluence, go to Space Settings in whatever space you want to export.
  • Select the Content Tools section and click on the Export tab.
  • Choose the HTML option, click Next, and then Export. The Normal Export option is best unless you want to pick out specific pages to export from your space via the Custom Export option.
  • In Notion, click Import in the left sidebar, choose HTML, and upload the exported Confluence files.

FAQs

I can't seem to import from Evernote China/Evernote Business.
Unfortunately, our importer only supports the standard edition of Evernote at the moment. We're working on it!
